Use arrow keys to move around

E when prompted

M will show a simple config screen where you can go full screen and change sounds,

If you get tired of the standard music (created by me) i added an option to use my placeholder music that was freely available on itch

In the puzzle game the pieced don't fit perfectly, this is intentional to make it realy look very broken and th art style lended itself more to that. When the pieces are in the correct position/ rotation they will turn green and snap in place. (and as always start with the edges.corners to make it easier)

My goal for this jam was to create a short story with different endings and as much smaller games in it as possible. Most of this worked out as planned. For the different endings i actually wanted to add some more subtle hints..... there is where i failed the hints there are less than subtle i think and don't fit in as good as i would have wanted

There are 3 endings to be had  where due to time i needed to use text instead of small animated scenes.

none the less i hope you enjoy

Updated:

Bug where you could walk with bookcase  open

some readability things

make button and glass more visible

Spoilers for endings First as a start i wanted to have more hints in the game and make it possible to redo the tasks so you could change the outcome how further you got into the story.

The idea and part of the 'TRICK" is that the voice on the phone is helpful in the start or so it looks like but you will read hint and see stuff that will make you realize that the noise is actual stopping the entity controlling you so by doing what he wants you give it power over you.

So in the end how you get the 3 endings is

GOOD - Do everything wrong by either leaving of failing the tasks

leave *mirror and *radio,

make the room warmer (or leave)

don't fix the crack,

you will wake up from your coma

MEDIUM - Do at least one of the things wrong or leave. In this ending you die, why then is not the bad ending, well read on

BAD - Do everything as the voice on the phone says.

You wont die, but you wish you had, the entity now controls you and will make your live a living hell.

Hints in the game in case you might have missed:

The books:

All the books actually hint that what the voice says is wrong, it talks about
  • The art of persuasion A strange voice starting to persuade you and hints at that there is something medical with you (coma)
  •  Why noise protects SO the noise is good leave it like it is don't fix it
  • Leaking hearth The basement is a representation of your hearth, you need a blood flow to be healthy, fixing the blood flow in the cellar a bad thing
  • Hypothermia: Well keep the room warm as it symbolizes the temperature of your body
  • Uninvited guess
  • YOU don't even know the guy on the phone and how does he know what is going on?

    Some other things,

the ghost in the mirror doesn't look to friendly, was it wise to fix it?

Sound queues: (unfortunately i noticed the ones in the thermos are broken) but there should be 2 there one when you make it warmer(a good queue) and one when making it colder (a bad queue)

In the signal minigame  (and they are intentional soft) you get a sound byte "come back" in a female voice just before you finish it, and if you do finish it an evil laugh

The mini games where meant to be analogies of its control over you

Thermostat = body temperature

Crack in the wall with blood = blood flow to your hearth

Signal = not a body part but your mind opening for the entity

Mirror = also not a body part but it's ability to see deeper into your mind

Tv(signal/noise) A clear image means you are complacent and not fighting while the noise means you are fighting back, so it telling you to fix the signal is counterproductive

I liked the overall concept of the game, and the visuals are the strongest element in it.

Some things that detracted from the experience: since it's such a text heavy game, typos and mistakes really stood out. Also, I wasn't able to go fullscreen in Firefox, so I couldn't see most of the instructions the game presents. That means that I failed most of the minigames.

I hope the feedback doesn't come across as too negative. I actually finished the game, which is more than I can say about other submissions in this jam :)

The best thing you can do next time is to really focus on a core idea and reduce the scope of the game, and use the extra time for polishing.

Thanks, all feedback is welcome as long as its constructive and it is. I think i should add my text to a text editor first to check grammar as i reread all a few times and i thought i had caught all mistakes.

Its weird firefox doesnt allow for full screen, i tested this on chrome, firerfox and edge and seemed to work well as it realy needs full screen to indeed be able to read the text.

Failing al minigames is frustrating if its not intentional but failing al does lead you to one of the 3 endings. Thanks for playing and taking the time to give good feedback

Great pixel art and mini-games! Recommend playing this one.
